Established in 2017, the Y’s New American Welcome Center (NAWC) works to co-create a community where all immigrants can thrive and flourish by engaging local institutions and mobilizing community resources to ensure equitable access to services, economic opportunity, and meaningful belonging.
Job Description
This internship will focus on developing and implementing an integrated communication strategy that strengthens the connection with key constituencies and increases their awareness and understanding of the mission of the New American Welcome Center. This role is ideal for a communication, advertising, or marketing major who is a strong writer and skilled at developing different types of content. Along with these skills, having a passion for the power of communications to influence and move people to action toward increasing advocacy for the immigrant community is pertinent. The intern will learn how to use the New American Welcome Center’s voice and will learn how to strategically craft messaging based on the unique needs of each communication medium. The intern will report to and work closely with the Director of the New American Welcome Center.
Compensation
This internship is a volunteer position and not a job. The intern must commit to volunteering a minimum of 10 hours per week for which they will receive a stipend at the end of the semester.
Requirements
Flexible during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm); some weekends and evenings. Volunteer schedule will be arranged in coordination with the intern’s supervisor.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Continue the development of NAWC branding
- Follow Y-USA Brand compliant instructions and guidelines
- Manage NAWC’s social media presence
- Create marketing materials (i.e. flyers, posters, brochures, impact report, etc.) in partnership with NAWC staff and interns
- Create and update NAWC outreach materials (i.e., newsletter templates, updates, etc.)
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
- Experience in community organizing, immigration, or other social justice causes
- Proficiency on social media platforms and in design platforms
- Effective time management and ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
